As the host of a weekly radio program, Sabor Tropical, aired on Hawaii Public Radios KIPO 89.3FM.. Ray has been turning on latin music enthusiasts in the islands with the best salsa, salsa clasica & Afro-Cuban and Latin Jazz.

Ray has been an important part of the growth of latin music in the islands. Born in NYC and raised in Puerto Rico, Ray has a solid foundation of what salsa was, is and what direction it is taking for the continued growth of the latin music industry. DJ Rod
It all started on a Sunday night at Havana Cabana in June of 2000. Dalion of Judah, a local salsa promoter was running a salsa night at Havana Cabana at the time and he taught me the basics of working the mixer and I took it from there. Salsa, the music, became an obsession and it still is. I could never have enough new or classic salsa music.

I continued to DJ at Havana Cabana until the fall of 2000 when Dalion Productions and Havana Cabana went their separate ways. Since then I have become DJ Rod "El Moreno de La Salsa" a name given to me by DJ Ray Cruz of Sabor Tropical, my friend and mentor and one of the most respected Latin DJ's in the world. He was recognized by Albert Torres at the 2002 West Coast Salsa Congress.

I'm now the DJ coordinator for the Hawaii Salsa Festival as well as head dj along with DJ Ray Cruz.  I've deejayed at Salsa in Paradise 1 & 2, World Cafe, Venus Nightclub, Waterfont Cafe, Blue Tropix, Zanzabar, Cafe Sistina, Schofield Barracks, first, second, third, fourth and fifth Annual Salsathon (Thanks Margarita), UPRAH fundraiser, Ford Island, and Rumors Nightclub. Currently DJ at Dream To Dance Studio and Fashion 45. My preference and specialty is hard hitting nonstop salsa.
