My CD pick this week is not a new release. I decided to visit an old classic. Willie Rosario's "Nueva Cosecha." This is one serious CD with the likes of Gilberto Santarosa, Tony Vega, Puppy Torres and Mario Viera on vocals and with some heavy hitters backing them up. Although this album is from 1986, it doesn't suffer from salsa monga sindrome. Quite the contrary, it has some serious swing with Willie Rosario at the helm. This is a must have in your collection.

DJ Rod's CD Pick 11/26/07
This week my CD pick is one of my favorite CDs. There is just something magical about a Latin Big Band; the blaring trumpets and saxe's, the growling bass, the swinging percussion and piano. With Frankie Vazquez on vocals this CD takes you back to the golden age of Mambo when Machito, Tito Puente and Tito Rodriguez were fighting for top billing. This music is as much for the dancer as it is for the listener.

This week my CD pick is a smoking release by a new band, The Black Sugar Sextet and man is this music sweet! The Black Sugar Sextet does a fantastic job taking you back to the days of Joe Cuba, New Swing Sextet etc. while at the same time having a swing and a feel all their own, it's a beautiful thing. The danceability, fantastic arrangements and fiery solos make this CD a must have in any Latin music collection.
