Featured Artist - Orquesta Antonetti

Summertime in Paradise means hot tunes for Hawaii's Salsamaniacs!!!

Aloha! Mi Gente, here is the scoops.

Every year around this time I start looking for the "hit" of the summer and this year was no exception. Enter....Orquesta Antonetti led by pianist Victor Antonetti, a Boricua from Salinas, Puerto Rico; joining forces with one of the best producers and arrangers in the Salsa and Merengue industry. Victor asked Grammy Award winner Ricky Gonzalez to produce the upcoming CD for Orquesta Antonetti.     If you know anything about the salsa genre, Ricky's resume speaks for itself.

Additionally, there are two invited guest singers on this project. Singer and long time friend Tito Allen ( Ray Barretto), and singing sensation and relative, Frankie Vazquez (Soneros Del Barrio & Manny Oquendo's Conjunto Libre) just to name a few.                     Can't Miss....Nuff said!!!

The CD is all about...Sabor!...in mega doses. Included in the list of songs are two sure fire hits for the dance floor and airwaves, "Lluvia" and "Complicacion"...a long time Tito Puente favorite. There are also two Merengue-Pop numbers on the production as well. This CD has ten tracks. A Son Montuno, eight Salsa tracks, and two Merengues. There is something for everyone.

We at Salsa After Dark are very excited about this new production.

If your looking for this Summers hit...check out Orquesta Antonetti's...Sigue El Paso...you won't be disappointed.
Muchos Thank You's... to Patti Vargas of Orun Music for the hook up on Orquesta Antonetti...you are da' best!

And remember:

Salseros "DO" Drink - a LOT - Salsa FREAK News...
Here is a nice EYE OPENING article written by Edie the Salsa Freak

The Myth that "Salseros Dont Drink".
Club Owners, GET A CLUE:   Salseros DRINK more than Club Owners THINK!!

Salseros Drink more than you THINK!!   We DRINK more fluids than most alcoholics!!  Provide Coffees, Lattes, Sparkling Water, Juices, Sports Drinks, Teas, and charge for water...
By Edie, The Salsa FREAK!!

I was at a Salsa Congress in [country].  They had a juice and smoothie bar with healthy freshly-made fruit drinks that was literally PACKED OUT EVERY night.  That Juice bar made more money THAN THE EVENT ITSELF.   IN THE THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS...   $$$ Money Money Money... yes, Salseros will SPEND THE MONEY if it's HEALTHY.    World Famous Club Mayan opened up an Espresso Bar... and MAKES MONEY NO MATTER WHAT.    Attention Club Owners.  You have to THINK ABOUT what type of clientel you are attracting
... and CATER TO THEM.    Salseros don't often drink that much alcohol. We feel our "high" from the music, and doing all those fancy dips, tricks, and turns... we can't AFFORD to screw up if we drink. To make money, and keep your Salsa Club open, you have GOT to charge people a minimum for coming in, be very strict with your guest lists, and provide us with drinks we enjoy - don't just limit us to alcohol. You will be surprised to see the number of serious athletes that frequent the Salsa dance floor. Marathon runners, gymnasts, stuntmen, martial artists, bodybuilders... all of them watch their health like a hawk. Drinking alcohol is not part of their makeup, but exercise is. Dancing to them is another form of exercise. If this is the case, provide them with the fluids they need such as Sports drinks, juices, and coffees.

Salseros can't AFFORD to screw up or fall on the dance floor if they drink. To some dancers, Salsa/Mambo is not only a spiritual and physical renewal, but it's also an art form, and to others, a form of exercise or contact sport. Whatever the case, they may not want to mix health, art, sports, or exercise with alcohol, but when that's all there is available, no wonder they don't buy anything but water at the bar.

There have been countless times when I show up at a club a little tired from the day, and need an extra "caffeine" kick to start off the night. About 50% of the time, the bar doesn't serve coffee. Once I dished out $3 for a coffee, very willingly because it tasted great, got me going, and with a $2 bottle of water, quenched my thirst! Plus, I was able to stay awake for the long drive back to my house!

Many of us are "athletes" out on the Salsa dance floor, and nutritional and stimulating caffeinated drinks are what we'd prefer if we don't drink alcohol, so provide it for us!

    2007 CD Picks

Our Picks, The Best of 2007!

2007 has been a banner year for new, as well as, established Salsa artists. In our picks for the Best of 2007, you might recognize some of the artists as they continually record good music for the dance floors and radio. Some are new artists that even the connoisseur's of good salsa music wouldn't recognize if they saw them in their favorite record store displays or at listening stations.

A special thanks goes out to the Fania E-Musica label for their excellent efforts in remastering the recordings that made Salsa what is today...an international phenomenon. Whole new generations of Salsa enthusiasts are getting to hear these artists and hear for themselves what some refer to as the "Golden Age of Salsa".

We are  definitely looking forward to more good music being recorded and to the growth of the Salsa music genre in 2008.

These selections are in no particular order of rating just alphabetical.
